Imposter Syndrome and How to Combat It: The Law School Application Process
I’m excited to introduce my FIRST guest post of the blog. I love to discuss the many faces of law school imposter syndrome and today we are diving into its presence in the application process! Kassidy did a great job articulating what many of us feel/felt in applying to law school, especially folks who are first-generation and may not have access to the resources others do. Feel free to message me on my blog instagram if you want to write a guest post for EarthToJul yourself! Kassidy Tirelli is a graduate of Rowan University and will start school at the Rutgers University School of Law in August. She hopes to…

Being Productive in Remote Law School
The Zoom Fatigue this semester has definitely been real, so I wanted to share a short list of tips for staying motivated and productive in remote learning/law school! Definitely check out my other blog posts on similar topics, like my posts on how to manage time and how to stay organized! Have a designated study space. No studying in bed, on the couch, etc. Have a designated space! I don’t let myself get in bed unless I’m napping or am done with my schoolwork for the day. Make your study space one that you love and enjoy spending time in. Light a candle, put up a poster or some sort…

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Law School
A highly demanded blog post! I will admit, I did not have a hard time choosing a law school. In fact, I didn’t even tour a single one before making my decision. That’s because UC Davis was the best law school I got into, they offered me the most financial aid, and I was an undergrad on the same campus at the time (and very familiar with the law school). For me, it wasn’t even a question. I was going to go to King Hall. Over the last two years of law school, I’ve appreciated my decision to stay in Davis for law school. I’ve also gathered plenty of information…

A Day in Muir Woods
Sergio and I took a day trip over to Marin this weekend to explore Muir Woods, since neither of us had ever been. It was a nice escape from the city for some fresh air. It’s crazy to think I had never been over to Muir Woods even though I basically live in San Francisco (visiting my partner Sergio on the weekends). Just a short drive across the Golden Gate Bridge and into the forest of Marin, Muir Woods National Monument boasts old-growth redwoods trees and trails with stunning views. It was founded in 1908 by President Roosevelt and named after famous naturalist and father of the National Parks System,…

Things I’ve Learned So Far in Law School
The first three semesters of law school have been quite a roller coaster to say the least. Here are the main things I’ve learned along the way: They weren’t kidding about all of the reading. You might be reading this thinking, “How bad can it be?” but its bad. I spend a couple of hours every day just reading cases in thick textbooks, which are never entertaining. Being stuck in my room all day with remote learning makes me loathe it even more. And you can’t ever skip it like you did in undergrad because you’re going to get cold called in class to answer questions about it! Overall, very…

“How do you manage your time in law school?”
This post is written as an addition to what i’ve said in my law school organization post, which can be found here. A common question I get from my instagram followers is how I manage my time in law school. I am definitely not an expert at time management and am constantly looking to improve! I don’t have any specific advice, but here are some of my thoughts on the topic: Google calendar, physical planner checklists, sticky note technique, and reminders on my phone are all key for organization, as well as my Amazon wooden book stand that I could never live without. When I was going to class in-person,…

My Journey to Law School
A look into my journey to becoming an environmental attorney When I was in high school, I originally wanted to be a an environmental scientist. I had taken AP Environmental Science and was so fascinated with the subject. I quickly learned, however, that I was TERRIBLE at math… and chemistry… and a lot of other subjects I’d need to become a scientist. Around the same time, I had joined the mock trial team. I joined because it sounded interesting, I liked the teacher who coached it, and some of my friends were on the team. My role in mock trial was to testify as an expert witness for this made-up…

The Personal Statement That Got Me Into Law School
Here’s my law school application personal statement for inspiration! I won’t give any advice on how to write a personal statement because I had a LOT of help. I consulted various friends who were already in law school to use their statements as examples and had others proofread and give feedback. What I will say is that you should speak from the heart on whatever you discuss in your statement and make sure to proofread proofread proofread! I also wouldn’t worry too much about your statement, keep in mind that your LSAT score and GPA matter the most on your application! A special thanks to my best friend Gretchen for…

How to Handle Law School Cold Calls
Entering law school is stressful, given how different it is from college. Cold calls can be a huge part of the stress of law school for some students as it’s a completely new way of doing lecture. No one really encounters this method during undergrad lectures, and if they do, the questions posed are not nearly as difficult. In this post, I’ll go over what cold calls are, some examples, and my tips for handling them. What is a cold call? Cold-calling, sometimes referred to as the socratic method, is a way of teaching class where the emphasis is on the teacher asking the students questions, instead of the other…

How Law School Differs From Undergrad
Coming straight from undergrad to law school was a huge transition for me and I had no idea what to expect, other than what I had seen in movies, tv, and the one time I had sat in on a law school class. In some ways law school is very similar. You attend lecture, you take notes, and you complete exams. There are, however, huge key differences. I’ve gotten so used to how law school is run I barely even think about how laid-back undergraduate classes were. Here are my main observations on how law school is different from undergrad! Everyone dresses nicer. In undergrad, my lectures were full of…
