What to Bring to UC Davis

Three essential purchases for starting college or grad school at UC Davis. A Bike, and the correct bike lock. You might have heard about how everyone in Davis bikes to get to class or around town. It’s true, we have plenty of bikes here. Davis even had the first bike lane in the U.S.! Bring a bike or have a plan on where to get one because the Targets and Walmarts of the area often sell out fast at the beginning of the school year. I also HIGHLY recommend a U-Lock for locking up your bike. Anyone in Davis will tell you that is the type of bike lock to…

    A Day in Muir Woods

Sergio and I took a day trip over to Marin this weekend to explore Muir Woods, since neither of us had ever been. It was a nice escape from the city for some fresh air. It’s crazy to think I had never been over to Muir Woods even though I basically live in San Francisco (visiting my partner Sergio on the weekends). Just a short drive across the Golden Gate Bridge and into the forest of Marin, Muir Woods National Monument boasts old-growth redwoods trees and trails with stunning views. It was founded in 1908 by President Roosevelt and named after famous naturalist and father of the National Parks System,…

The Ultimate Guide to Davis, California

Home to UC Davis, big red buses, and plenty of cows, Davis is the cutest quaint college town. Having lived here for six years now, I have made my rounds through all of the good bars, food spots, and places to hang out. Here’s a guide with all of my Davis favorites! Where to Stay and How to Get Around If you’re coming into town and need to find a place to stay, we’ve got plenty of hotels in the area. I suggest the Hyatt Place UC Davis, which is directly on campus, if you’re coming to visit a student or for a campus event. Another good Davis hotel option…

How to Spend One Day In Napa, California

There’s endless opportunities for a fun time in the Napa Valley, with restaurants, spas, and over 500 wineries. I’ve never spent more than 24 hours in the area, but luckily, going to Napa for a day is the perfect bite-sized trip. Pick out a wine tasting or two and a place to eat, and you’ll be good to go! If you’re staying overnight, I recommend finding a cute airbnb nearby. The homes in Napa proper are adorable with a cottage/farmhouse feel and plenty are listed on airbnb. I haven’t had the chance to stay in one on my trips to Napa just yet, but I have stayed overnight in the…

    Day Trip to Yosemite

Yosemite National Park is one of the west coast’s most popular attractions with about 4 million visitors per year. Here is an itinerary with options for how to spend a day in the park! When to visit. Yosemite is open all-year-round, however, snow in the winter makes it difficult to travel to with many road closures in the park. Road closures would also mean you couldn’t drive up to some notable vista points, like Glacier Point and Taft Point. The busiest time for tourism in the park is generally June through August. I would recommend going in early May when the roads re-open to avoid the crowds. May is also…

Two Days in Key West, Florida

Last week, I took a trip to Key West for two days. Here’s what I did, where I ate, and how I got there. Travel. We drove to KW from Miami, which took about three and a half hours. The drive there is so beautiful! It includes over 30 bridges, one of them being seven miles long. You pass through Key Largo, Islamorada, Marathon, and a whole bunch of other islands, or “keys”. While there’s plenty of food and shops you can stop at on the drive, we only stopped once for a stretch break and to take a picture at the end of the seven mile bridge. There’s a…

What I pack in my carry-on purse

All the essentials for a domestic flight, and what to bring during COVID For domestic flights, I usually take a tote purse filled with everything I need for the flight, and put everything else in my checked bag. Sometimes I opt for a small carry-on suitcase over a checked bag if i’m only traveling for two days or so, but the tote bag always comes on the plane as my purse. I’m flying to Florida on Friday for a week-long vacation, so I’m taking a checked suitcase and my tote bag. Here’s what I’ve got packed! Purse. The bag I use is from Target and super affordable (and reversible!). It…

A day trip to Napa from SF

I don’t know about you, but ever since I turned 21, I have just been itching to go to Napa. Having grown up in the Central Valley and gone to school in the Sacramento area, I can’t believe it took me until this year to make a trip out to the Napa valley! Here’s some information that will hopefully help you plan a day trip out from the Bay Area: Travel time by car: Getting into Napa from the mission district of San Francisco was approximately an hour and twenty minute drive, leaving on a Saturday morning. Weather: We went at the end of July when it was sunny and…
