Two Days in Key West, Florida

Last week, I took a trip to Key West for two days. Here’s what I did, where I ate, and how I got there. Travel. We drove to KW from Miami, which took about three and a half hours. The drive there is so beautiful! It includes over 30 bridges, one of them being seven miles long. You pass through Key Largo, Islamorada, Marathon, and a whole bunch of other islands, or “keys”. While there’s plenty of food and shops you can stop at on the drive, we only stopped once for a stretch break and to take a picture at the end of the seven mile bridge. There’s a…

Easy ways to elevate your childhood bedroom

Pretty much every time I would return home from college over a weekend or a holiday, I would cringe at my childhood bedroom. Now that i’m doing law school remotely from home, I’ve had some free time to revamp my bedroom. Just a few changes here and there can make a huge difference in a bedroom without breaking your bank. Now not only does it feel more mature, but it makes for a better looking background on Zoom. Paint. This is by far the most transformative step of renovating your childhood bedroom. Whether your walls are just plain white or are currently a blaring hot pink (if so, RUN don’t…

What I pack in my carry-on purse

All the essentials for a domestic flight, and what to bring during COVID For domestic flights, I usually take a tote purse filled with everything I need for the flight, and put everything else in my checked bag. Sometimes I opt for a small carry-on suitcase over a checked bag if i’m only traveling for two days or so, but the tote bag always comes on the plane as my purse. I’m flying to Florida on Friday for a week-long vacation, so I’m taking a checked suitcase and my tote bag. Here’s what I’ve got packed! Purse. The bag I use is from Target and super affordable (and reversible!). It…

Starting law school: what to expect

Starting law school can be daunting. It’s a whole new ballgame compared to undergrad, and takes some time to adjust to. I personally had no idea what to expect, and my only impressions of law school were from Legally Blonde, How to Get Away with Murder, and my one time sitting in on a class at UC Davis Law. Although every law school is different, here’s some insight into what you should expect: Expect to read more than you ever have. Law school courses revolve around reading cases, and learning how the legal issues were analyzed. You will be doing a lot more reading than you ever did in undergrad–…

A day trip to Napa from SF

I don’t know about you, but ever since I turned 21, I have just been itching to go to Napa. Having grown up in the Central Valley and gone to school in the Sacramento area, I can’t believe it took me until this year to make a trip out to the Napa valley! Here’s some information that will hopefully help you plan a day trip out from the Bay Area: Travel time by car: Getting into Napa from the mission district of San Francisco was approximately an hour and twenty minute drive, leaving on a Saturday morning. Weather: We went at the end of July when it was sunny and…

Finding a 1L Summer Internship: Advice

Trying to find a summer position for your 1L summer can be stressful. Here are some tips for trying to land an internship! When I was applying to 1L summer positions, I started around thanksgiving and early December of my fall semester. At that time, only a few intern programs were starting to open up and it was hard to apply when you hadn’t received your first semester grades back yet. I applied to whatever I could find through winter break, and then a lot more applications started appearing in January and February. I spent a good amount of time during the spring semester finding and applying to internships! Then…

5 essential things you should have for law school

A book stand. As I mentioned in my go-to law school advice post, a book stand is an essential item for law school given the hefty amount of reading you’ll be doing. A book stand raises your book so you aren’t hunched over it studying, and provides easy access to your readings when in lecture. There are all kinds of book stands, the $13 one I purchased can be found on Amazon here. There’s also cool collapsible stands that can easily fit into your bag. A Quimbee subscription. Essentially, Quimbee is Sparknotes for law school. You can read what I have to say about it on this blog post. To…

So your law school went remote…

Tips and Tricks for remote law school Law school is hard enough to navigate without COVID-19 thrown in the mix. With the pandemic showing no signs of slowing down in some states, universities have begun to roll out remote learning plans for the Fall Semester. Law schools are no exception, with UC Davis Law (where I currently attend) being one of many to go completely remote. Having switched to remote learning about halfway through last semester, I tried to adapt quickly to a new style of lecture and learned some things along the way. Mute, mute, mute. This may seem like a no-brainer, but always remember to mute yourself when…

My go-to advice for people starting law school

Starting law school can be a little daunting. Who am I kidding, law school can be TERRIFYING. The set-up is different, the exams are different, and your whole legal career depends on your performance here. Since starting as a 1L, I’ve given plenty of advice to friends of mine starting law school themselves. From textbooks to study habits, it’s helpful to have someone who has already gone through their first year give you the tips and tricks. I will say, however, that everyone has their OWN study habits. Advice for law school is not a one-size-fits-all. With that in mind, here are the main pointers I have gathered for incoming…
